The search beyond the colours

This is a common scene in most of the South Indian festivals, particularly in festivals for Godess Mariamman( one form of Godess Sakthi in Hinduism) , quite few years back. Children carry this doll made of sand on their head along with the neem leaves and offer them to Goddess Mariamman for having recovered from any chronic illness. Now this offering is vanishing little by little.

Pon Raghunathan has brought this vanishing act on his canvas with his unique contemporary style. Being brought up in village he has hard feeling about these vanishing rituals. His canvas speaks his feelings beyond colours and strokes.
